What guidance counselor allowed a freshman to take this combination of classes, particularly given the C+ last year? Someone wasn’t doing their job! The whole point of having a guidance counselor is for that person to step in and provide some reality. Our district allows those who are ready to start the HS math sequence in 6th grade, so my daughter took PreCalc in 9th grade. But to move to the next class in a sequence, they had to score an 80 or better on both their final grade and the final exam, or retake the class. A bit of leeway is given for those moving to the HS, but you would never have been allowed to move to Algebra 2 Honors for 9th grade. You would have either repeated Geometry (as you would have if you had a C+ as a 7th grader), or possibly been allowed to take non-honors Algebra 2. Beyond that, 9th grade is a time of transition, not a time to jump into as many high level classes as possible. Even if you are capable of doing the work for each class, are you capable of doing the work for ALL of the classes at the same time? There’s a big difference. The saving grace - you can’t fail a class in 4 weeks, and you’re not actually failing anyway. You didn’t even fail the tests. One of my children once chose not to do a projects during the first marking period of one of her classes - got a ZERO for the marking period. She still ended up with a 74 for the year. You have an uphill battle, but a C for the first marking period will not show on your transcript, and does not have to mean a C for a final grade.
As for MIT, I agree with what was already said. If you’re struggling now, and don’t know where to turn for help, you’re going to struggle at MIT. There are plenty of excellent CS programs to consider, where the stress level will be lower. Start looking into some of them now, and don’t spend your entire time in HS stressing over whether you’ll get into MIT. Because even the best of the best don’t all get in.
