Fairly poor first semester

Hello,

I attend Cornell University to major in biology and minor hopefully in physics/math. I just got back my first semster grades and was not too happy...I got a 3.43, with a major gpa of a 3.4. I'm fairly annoyed as i was sure i'd get a higher average based on my calculations, but this isn't the case!. Will this GPA be a detriment in the future, especially for grad schools? I now know the difference between high school and college, and understand that Cornell is incredibly difficult even though I love it. I'm not doing premed. Thanks.

It’s your first semester, plenty of time to improve. Your grades in the first semester, which can’t be all that bad with a 3.43 GPA, won’t even be a consideration in graduate school applications 3 years from now. Focus on next semester.
