Fake recommendation?

Hi,

It was a weak moment for me and I was under a lot of pressure. I had 2 recommendations that I sent to Georgetown. One was real and one was fake that I made. I don't want to ruin my life now. Can I just call Georgetown and have them throw out my application? The fake recommendation was based off the Common Application rec that a teacher wrote for me. Basically, the CA rec had all perfect checks and great statements. Since GU has a separate form, I tried to transer the checks and forged her signature. Now I just want to come clean and confess, but I don't want to be screwed, so I'm thinking of just calling and saying I got accepted ED to a college.

By the way, I haven't been caught or anything, but I'm scared that I am. If I rejected from Gtown for lying, I don't want to get screwed from all the schools on my common app.

You should definitely contact them and withdraw application, however I am very impressed with your clarity now that it has happened. Lots of people make a whole lot of poor choices, what we do next is what matters. Do the right thing and don’t let the poor choice define you and consume you. Move forward with a clear head and heart.

Alright thanks. I’m so glad its Friday and I still will have time. By the way, have any suggestions on how to word my withdrawal?

You shouldn’t need a reason, they appreciate info when people change their mind. A suggestion in general- I work in a high school and do a LOT of letters. I always give the student several extra letters for whatever they need, even if I also put on common app. It will also be helpful when applying to scholarships to have a few on letterhead on hand. Just ask, they won’t mind-easier than the student constantly coming back.

I’m talking about calling the GTown admissions and withdrawing? I have tons of REAL recommendations, I just didn’t have the one for GTowns format, so I tried to make one up.

Dear_____

I would like to withdraw my application for admission to _____________. Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,

Send an email. Also send a letter by mail. Go to the post office and get it sent so that you can track that it has been recieved. That way, you won’t have to think about it, anymore.

Good luck to you.

Got it! I agree with the simple recommendation you got. The sooner you do it the sooner you will be able to emotionally move forward. As an educator it is good to see how you are handling it.

Thanks, Poppyseedz, I called them today and they happily jettisoned my application. although it was my number one school and my dream to go there, I still have great chances at other schools. Trust me, I have been in trouble before for lying and I learned way back then that the consequences are not worth it.
