Fall 2011 Applicants

To answer an above question - my kid’s acceptance was delivered by the regular mail service and arrived today. We’re in Southern Cal.

I haven’t gotten mine, hm… I live in SD.

Still nothing here (40 min away). Do you guys think the major determines when they send stuff out?

I think they will send out scholarship notifications this week, acceptances beginning of next week and rejections at the end of next week. Just impression i get through communication with admin department and cousin who’s a student now.

^Very good point. My child received a scholarship with the acceptance.

Is there a change on the ecampus status?

^For my child who was accepted, there has not been a change in her ecampus status. It looks like it always has.

I"m new to this web site/forum so please bear with me if I say anything completely dumb… I was wondering how your child will choose bet schools - like yours, my child was just accepted at Santa Clara and given a scholarship. Are you looking for best financial aid package or “best” school (reputation-wise, etc.)?

as a student with an older brother who went through the process as well. I think its most important to choose the school that fits the student best. They are most likely to stay at that college for the entire time, get the most out of it and do well. I think though scholarships are important its more important to be happy and successful.

@Kathydee - For our family, the scholarships are very important. Our child could not attend a wonderful school like Santa Clara without said scholarship. With it, it brings the cost of the school down to a more doable level for us.

So now, our child will look at the schools that are affordable, and decide which one fits her the best. It is like hpgirl said above, ultimately, the student needs to feel a part of the greater community. Visit the campus as an accepted student, talk with students in her major, check out the dorms, ask to sit in on a class, etc. I think reputations are great, but if a student doesn’t feel a connection with the school or their fellow students then it could be an incredibly long 4 years. Fortunately, with Santa Clara, it is such an amazing school reputation-wise, student-wise, community-wise, etc…it is a win-win situation!

The notification process for 2015 has gotten a little frustrating for our family. I know the wait will end soon, but SCU is not coming across well. Why can’t they utilize their ecampus and let everyone know, rather than releasing decisions bit by bit in the mail? Ironic for a high tech, silicon valley school. Anyone else feeling this way?

Absolutely! This is frustrating. We can’t make any plans for spring break as we don’t know if it should include a trip to SCU. What is the problem. Even the UCs which receive many more applications, have released their decisions.

Spring break is next week and our only chance for a campus visit. We have a tour scheduled for Monday, and are hoping the postman brings us good news today. Either way, we’ll be going to CA and enjoying some sunshine.

Sunshine! Ha! Have you been following the weather here? Hopefully better next week!

@itscomplicated Thank you for your comments. Since my kid got a full tuition scholarship, we will be visiting the campus soon. We’ve heard that it’s a great school and it’s now MY top choice!

^Shrinkrap - I have, but the forcast looks better for next week (fingers crossed). Sunny in Seattle today :)

Ah! Assuming no good news from SCU, we are heading to Portland and Spokane next week!

(University of Portland, Gonzaga,Whitworth. Have You been?)

We’ve been to Portland and D is strongly considering it due to generous merit aid. Will be in Spokane 4/7-4/9 for a competition and will tour Gonzaga then. D did not apply to Whitworth. We will also tour Cal Poly next week.

It would have been great if any of the admitted student days worked with our schedule, but no such luck.

I received my acceptance in the mail today
