Fall 2011 Applicants

im applying as a sophomore transfer and am completely nervous for the decisions. Do you know when they come out? And what my chances are? I go to UCI and have a 3.4 cumulative and got a 3.67 last quarter. I got accepted in high school too. I applied to School of Arts and Sciences.

Sorry about assuming the class of 2015 is ALL rich kids from Cali. Ironically, S got the same vibe when attending the preview day a few weeks ago, though he used different words to describe the attitude. Anyone know why alumni giving at SCU is so low?

I have already been accepted to SCU as a transfer student. I currently have a 3.4 gpa and currently have a C in one of my classes. I don’t know if I should stay in the class or withdraw from the class? Can my application be rescinded if my gpa drops to a 3.3 or 3.2??

Probably won’t be rescinded for a single C. However, only an admissions counselor from SCU can tell you for certain. Try calling/emailing Lisa Osteraas. She was very helpful during my daughter’s transfer process to SCU.

You know, the best anyone can say is that your stats are sufficient to get into SCU. I know several students with around a 3.3 who were accepted into Arts & Sciences. I have heard anecdotally that if a student has a very compelling personal story, they will accept them even with a bit lower gpa. With that said, I know even more that were 3.7+ who got into SCU as transfer. So the question is a bit more about who you are in your essays and your letters of recommendation that would then interest the adcoms. Did you write a passionate essay? Have strong ECs? Align with the jesuit philosophy in your essays?

The admission rate for 2009 transfers was a fairly high 70%, though I am somewhat convinced that students who do not require a massive amount of institutional based financial aid are likely also looked on favorably–though I have no proof of that. Until I hear otherwise, I will merely assume it because colleges in general are hurting for funds. So, if you have a strong financial profile (read: don’t need monies directly from the college) that will only help.

But in the end, admissions are fickle. Two students with similar profiles and one can get accepted and the other denied. You clearly meet the requirements for Arts & Sciences with your 3.4. But beyond that, all I can say is that a 70% admittance rate is at least a hopeful thing.

I know a guy at my HS who applied this year, is going to attend, and actually got a full-ride. Pretty good grades I’d say, probably above a 3.7+ at least, decent ECs, minority, and I would think has a high income bracket.

I was curious as to SCU’s policy on transfer students from UCs.

I am attending UC Santa Cruz as a freshman this fall, but I am intending on applying to Santa Clara University as soon possible since I am extremely interested in its Communication program. I understand that it is possible to apply as a transfer ungergrad student for Winter Term. Is it possible for me to apply to SCU this October?
