Fall 2014 Admissions

Hey everyone, I just logged onto financial aid and under the messages tab, it says “I am pleased to inform you that by delegated authority of the Scholarship Committee of the School of General Studies, you have been awarded a New Student Scholarship for the 2014-2015 academic year. Please see the awards section of this letter to review this award and any other aid currently offered to you. Scholarship Guidelines:” However, there is no awards section of this letter. Is there a reason for this? Has anyone seen this on their messages tab of their financial aid page? What does this mean?

@campaigner‌ That’s great news. Thanks!

I have applied march 6 and still haven’t heard anything. Is anyone in the same situation as me? Also never been called for an interview, should I be worried? Any feedback would help, thanks

See you all on campus! :)

@Stein614‌ Just give it a few days and you’ll get an awards tab with accept/decline options. Most importantly, you’ll see what the amounts for each award are. I think it took mine about a week after seeing what you’re seeing until I had the other tabs available.

@pmilmarines‌ Thank you for your response. I hope I get at least a phi theta kappa scholarship!

@jemendez10‌ Congrats!

@Stein614‌ How did you get your entrance credit report? Did they send it online or by mail? And did you have to request it in a specific way, or do they send it to you a couple weeks after your acceptance? Thank you!

@rumicairo‌ I asked an admissions manager if they could expedite my financial aid and entrance credit report, and they did. I received the ECR via email.

So my finaid account has been updated. I have to fill out and submit some promissory notes and entrance interviews. However, loans amounts haven’t been disclosed which I believe are necessary in order to complete the required forms. Anyone else with this issue?

@pocketsqman‌ Thank you!

How do I know when they’ve received the Acceptance Reply Form? Anybody?

I sent mine in by USPS regular mail last week.
I called today to confirm they received it and they told me that they had processed it yesterday (Tuesday).

I was able to activate my UNI and register for orientation in August.
I’ve been able to do everything in the New Student Checklist (https://gs.columbia.edu/new-student-checklist</a>) except the immunizations and joining Storybook. I haven’t gotten an invite for Storybook yet. Has anyone else?

@Beltayn‌ Your invite to storybook will come shortly. Takes about a week or so.

Yay!! this is so encouraging. I’m still working on my essay and won’t take my SAT until June…I called and e-mailed the GS office and both said it would be fine. I was going to take the GSAE on the 30th as well. Is this overkill?

@DianaPrince,

My name is Christina and I’m a current student and tour guide at GS.

The GSAE (General Studies Admissions Exam) is only open to students who have never taken the SAT/ACT, or whose scores are older than eight years. Since you will be taking the SAT in June, you won’t be eligible. But even if you could take it, it really would be overkill, since the GSAE is designed to mimic the SAT. Your SAT scores will be more than enough.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Christina

“This email is to confirm the receipt of your application materials, and your application to the School of General Studies is complete and under review. Please expect your admissions decision to arrive in the mail shortly.”

i asked about my application status and got this response.
Anyone has received this? What does “shortly” mean… how short will that be?

anyone applied around April 1st got their results?

@canwng my application was under review for six weeks as an Early Action applicant. Upon review of my application they requested to see my spring semester grades before making a final decision. If your application is outstanding, it might only take one look from the admissions committee to make a decision, if your application is not what they are looking for then expect a quick turnaround on the decision as well. They may look at your application and decide to wait for a greater pool of applicants before making a decision. So basically “shortly” could mean anytime from now until middle of July.

Has anybody received the Financial Aid package yet?
