@kozarts @Hagboorn you’re both either early 20s or just naive if you turn down the Berkley offer for a, “dream school.” You will HATE Columbia when they begin harassing you for your payments. You’ll learn to love Berkley just as much. You’ll regret the loans, trust me. Google, “student loan nightmares,” then accept your Berkley admission. Have a nice day.
Submitted them my spring grades a week ago, still waiting on a response. It’s killing me. Congrats to all who have gotten in.
Got the phone call today, I’m in !! Could not be more excited and eager to begin in the fall!
@TedNicholas Congrats!
I just heard back about my cost for GS. They will give me $30000 scholarship, but I will have to pay $46000 a YEAR!
Tuition $48,900.00 Parental Contribution $0.00
Fees $4,575.00 Student Contribution $0.00
Living Expenses $16,830.00
Books & Supplies $1,400.00
Transportation $1,080.00
Personal Expenses $3,735.00
Loan Fee $90.00
Total Budget $76,610.00
Compare it to Berkeley, Haas school of business…Net cost $7,900 a year!
@Hagboorn
Woah, thats way more than I thought it would be.How many years would you have to go to complete your degree? Because 184k if you go for 4 years hurts no matter who you are, that’s 2k a month loan payment for 10 years…
The idea of that makes my stomach sink…
@Editor440 , I have 70 units from a community college, all transferable; however, Columbia only accepted 49 units–It is actually a lot for an Ivy League. Anyways, since they only accepted 49 units, I would have to stay there for at least 2.5 years. 2.5x$46,000=$115,000 to get my BA!
@hagboorn Ahh okay, yeah I should have considered that. What do you think about that? I’m unsure if I could stomach that, although I might have a source of outside funding. Although you may be in another financial situation, or better start looking for outside scholarships now.
@hagboorn Didn’t get in, good luck whereever you go!
@Editor440 , I am sorry to hear that. I am going to UC Berkeley, Haas school of business. Columbia was my dream school, but I just couldn’t afford it right now.
Just got my acceptance today! Congrats to everyone who got in, and good luck to those waiting!
Hi Hagboorn,
My name is Orit, and I am a current student and Tour Guide/Ambassador for the School of General Studies. You raise a good question in terms of the difference between a degree from GS versus Columbia College, and we wanted to let you know that the degrees are in fact the same, including in the eyes of employers. It also often comes down to how much a student makes use of career services on campus and networking, which is true for both traditional and nontraditional students here at Columbia. Wishing you the best in your decision!
@GSTourGuides , Thank you so much for clarifying that. I think many had the same question about the GS degree.
Did anyone who got accepted get an Entrance Credit Report yet for transfer credits? Does it come in the acceptance package delivered in the mail?
@671242491 I received mine yesterday via email. Not as many credits transferred as I thought were going to, but hey, at least I’m not starting from scratch.
Still nothing from financial aid. I’ve called and left voicemails but haven’t heard anything. my financial aid package is determining wether or not I defer
@sasaskid How many credits were you transferring with/how many did they accept?
I transferred with 70, they accepted 60.
5 units of pre-college math, 3 units of english 2, and 2 units of swimming classes not accepted, rightfully so.
So essentially, I am not losing any progress at all.
@sasaskid @GSTourGuides Hey! How did you get the credit transfer application form? I didn’t get that in my AD package. Also, how long is the credit transfer review process? Thanks!
How can you log into the FInancial aid page to see if you were accepted? Where is the page?
