Are roommates selected by the school using the LLC ?
Roommates are assigned within the LLC using a survey you fill out (about your personal habits and interests) to match people by an algorithm. It seems to work pretty well in general.
@nanotechnology in your experience, what is your sense of how successful this algorithm works? What kinds of questions does the survey ask? I have a messy, social son who also needs to unplug from the world at regular intervals to recharge. I would’ve paid for a single to avoid a roommate who is uptight and always in the room (no hard feelings – I am sure that kind of kid would love to avoid rooming with mine).
@binky17 Have you gone - or are you planning on going to - the revisit days? We are attending on the 9th and understand that they will be doing a tour of East Village as part of/after the Honors lunch for 12-1.
Hi @suzyQ7 thanks for the heads up about that. We would love to, but it would mean booking a last-minute flight, so I doubt it. The Honors lunch sounds nice, though. If you learn anything I ought to know, I would love to hear about it. Thanks in advance.
The housing questionnaire (at least 5 years ago) was only a few questions - neat/sloppy, early bird/night owl, type of music you like, etc. For my daughter it did a horrible job of matching - she answered honestly - a real night owl and ended up with somebody who was the exact opposite.
It’s more than 5 questions now, probably around 20 if I remember correctly. In my experience, people have much more success with random than trying to pick themselves. I went random and were great friends, very thankful I did!
@kiddie not the kind of early bird who thinks everybody should be up and at 'em too? Haha
More like early bird who was annoyed by night owl getting ready for bed at 1 am which disturbed early bird’s sleep.
Sleep habits should be the #1 criterion on that survey. I am appalled by how little my undergrads sleep.
