@launegg do you know if you can get considered for your alt major instead?
No Waitlist data for Cal Poly Pomona on the common dataset. I went back 5 years.
Denied, local
Electrical engineering
Gpa 3.7
sat 1490 …Anyone knows of a community college that has similar classes for electrical engineering program ? So that i won’t be behind when can I apply again in 1 or 2 years ??
@sierrasracing your stats r the same as mine! Im surprised u were denied!
Hi everyone, I have been following what you all have been writing about for the past month or month and a half now. I have also been anxiously waiting to here a response as this is my top school since I got rejected from most places I applied to (Rejected: UCLA, UCD, UCB, UCSB, UCSD)(Accepted: CSUN, CSUF). I have also applied to go to CPP Fall 2017 semester and finally saw that I was waitlisted yesterday. These are my stats:
GPA: 3.8 (around there)
SAT: 1090
Major: Animal science
Decision: Waitlisted
This is what my portal says for anyone who wants to know.:
Fall Semester 2018
Status: Waitlist Offer, Pending Student Response: Action Required Exclamation Point
Status Explanation:
You have been offered a place on the waitlist for Cal Poly Pomona. If you would like to remain on our waitlist, you must notify us no later than the deadline listed on your waitlist notification. In order to be placed on the waitlist, please accept the offer here: CPP Waitlist Response webpage
Should you no longer wish to be considered for admission, and would like to withdraw your application, you may submit the withdrawal request here: Withdraw CPP Application
Also, I wouldn’t completely blame the application process for just here, there are other CSU’s that haven’t sent all decisions yet. My 2 friends and brother are still waiting to here back from CSUN while I got accepted about a month ago. Also, if you look at some other threads, people haven’t all been admitted yet.
Thanks everyone for helping me through this tough time for applications, I hope you all get the response you wanted.
@Gumbymom if you were waitlisted can you call to be considered for your alt major instead?
so i called them saying if i can considered for my alt major instead of my first major to which i was waitlisted she said its already too late and i also asked her when should we hear back whether we got off the waitlist and are accepted she said by end of april
@xxsdccx: Unless CPP admissions has changed their application review policy, they will first consider your 1st choice major and if you do not meet their threshold, they will consider your alternate major. Are you 1st choice and alternate majors both impacted?
@xxsdccx that is odd as SIR isnt until May 1st so I would think they would be admitting off of waitlist after that date. In fact the email they send when you waitlist states “If you have opted to remain on the waitlist, by the end of May we will determine if space is available in our Fall 2017 class. If spaces remain unfilled, students who have notified us of their intent to remain on the Waitlist will be reconsidered for admission at the beginning of June” So my guess is we wont know anything more until after May 1st but probably closer to end of May The only explanation might be they are using waitlist to determine people that really want to go there? Who knows
@Gumbymom my 1st choice major is chemistry and my alternate is business adminstration-information systems i know chemistry is impacted but idk if my alt is impacted
@xxsdccx: Business Administration-Account is impacted not IS. Did you ask if they considered your alternate major on the initial review? I guess it is moot at this point, but hopefully you have other options and if accepted from the waitlist it will be icing on the cake if CPP is your first choice school.
@Bean981 isnt it suppose to be fall 2018 not 2017?
@Gumbymom i asked the person on the phone which was a student worker and she wouldnt let me speak to an admissions counselor so i have no idea as of right now
@xxsdccx: I would try to email admissions and ask if you were considered for your alternate major and then follow with a phone call to the admission’s officer directly. I am sure they are still working on applications so it may be a while before they get back to you. In the meantime, what are your other options since you will need to SIR somewhere by May 1.
@Gumbymom do you know of anyway of contacting the admissions counselor directly at cpp? Because everytime i call and ask the student workers just tell me the same thing over and over.
@xxsdccx yes it should be fall 2018 that is what is so funny the letters all state fall of 2017.
@xxsdccx: Sorry but other than sending a general email to admissions, it looks like they do not have the email address for the admissions counselor listed anywhere on the website.

@Gumbymom so i called again asking if i am waitlisted was i still considered for my alt major and the girl on the phone said no it was most likely your first major and i asked if i can book an appointment with an admissions counselor and she just told me to wait or go to another university. it really sucks cause i feel like theres a slim chance of getting accepted off of the waitlist
@xxsdccx: Sorry to hear that but all waitlisted students should consider the waitlist as a rejection and move on. If you are accepted off the waitlist, then you should consider it icing on the cake. CPP is only one a few CSU’s that even consider alternate majors (not sure if they considered them this year) so most applicants would be rejected if not admitted into their 1st choice major.
My niece applied 3 years ago as a local (10 mins away) for an impacted major. Her alternate major was not impacted, but she was waitlisted and never got off the waitlist. Unfortunately, all the CSU’s are feeling the burden of too many qualified applicants for not enough spots.
What are your other options and try to embrace these until you hear one way or another. Since CPP does not have any waitlist data for the last 5 years, there is no way of knowing your chances.
@Gumbymom ive been accepted into ucd and ucsc but i really wanted to go to cpp since its closer to home and i fell in love with the campus
