Fall 2018 Transfers Pomona College

@pozzle @AGoodFloridian what do they mean by midterm grades? This might seem as a dumb question but do colleges usually release “official” midterm transcripts/grades? If that is the case, my school doesn’t. Do you know what should I submit then? Just to be a bit clearer, there are some subjects I’m taking for which I wouldn’t have a single grade by the March 6 deadline. What should I do?

@TheLastofUs9 im assuming they mean the current grade you have in the course by the deadline. I’m the same situation as you where I won’t have a grade in the course by the time it’s due. I’m assuming the prof would sign off ‘N/A’ and explaining that no grade has been assigned yet in comment section.

@pozzle I called them today and they said it is up to the single instructor and to evaluate with him if it is possible. They mainly need the sheet for attendance(confirm you are taking the courses you listed).

@TheLastofUs9 ahh I see, thanks for clarifying!

Does anyone know if transfer decisions will be released with RD decisions?

@pozzle So RD were just released today. Our decisions will most likely be in about 2 weeks from now, on April 2nd (Monday), or possibly the Friday before that. Anyone else hyped?! Pomona will be the first college to kick off my decision spree <3

Gonna find out if I’m starting at the bottom or top of this rollercoaster woooot

@AGoodFloridian I’m super excited! I already got into my safety school, but the rest of these schools are considered “possibles” or “reaches” for me. I hope everyone receives good news!

Do you guys have an idea of what the acceptance rate for transfers is?

@plvnts Check out their common data sets over previous years.

https://www.pomona.edu/administration/institutional-research/common-data-set

Last year’s acceptance rate was a little under 10%, which is barely above their normal freshmen acceptance rate I think.

Uhm… Did anyone else get their decisions just now? :))

I was in the mode, submitting all of the financial aid documents missing from some colleges I applied to. Pomona was one of them, I got the (in)famous “update” email. I was thinking like… “oh, that was quick, I just sent my fin aid document a minute ag–wait…”

Happy to start off this admissions cycle with aaaaaaa… rejection!

No but really, they only admitted 15 students this year! They must’ve had a pretty overenrolled freshmen class. I enjoyed applying and the college treated me really well throughout the process. I wanna see an acceptance on this thread plsss

@AGoodFloridian

Rejection here!!! 15 people is ridiculously little… Regardless, I’m staying another year at my CC so maybe I’ll have another chance. But most likely I’ll end up going to one of the UC’s. Congratulations to those who got in. I didn’t expect to get in, but it still hurts :confused:

Accepted! I’m shocked but also incredibly grateful. Congrats to all accepted and I hope everyone gets to hear great news from other colleges soon.

Got my acceptance today! GLTA waiting on response!

@renoirs @BruiserBrigade A huge congrats to you guys! <:-P
2 of the 15 here, I’m glad that Pomona gives you until June 1st to make a decision, even though their decision date is early, relative to most colleges. Gives you a chance to compare other offers, etc

Rejected :frowning:

Rejected
expecting it because I wasn’t even able to send them my transcripts in by the deadline lol my school first screwed up with my financial aid and so had a hold on my account, and then my father screwed up with payment… It is really a shame when you don’t get a proper chance

They added some info about transfers in the 2022 article. It wasn’t there when it first came out:

https://www.pomona.edu/news/2018/03/16-introducing-pomona-college-class-2022

“In addition, the College admitted 28 transfer students from a pool of 390, a 20 percent increase in the applicant pool over last year.”

For those of you who were accepted, would you mind sharing your stats? Where are you transferring from, GPA, etc.

Also rejected :frowning: but I expected that lol
Anyone else a bit confused why the rejection letter said only 15 transfer students were accepted but online says 28 were?

I made it through. I have excellent GPA from community college and combo of URM, female, low income, 1st generation, decent SAT/ACT scores, great story that was included into my essays. I’m not too surprised. I’ve applied to 10 LACs but Pomona is on the top of my list. I like socal climate and culture. Claremont is awesome.
