Along with being accepted to many “top” schools like Duke and Brown, I ended up also seriously considering the University of Washington (my only safety school) come decision day. I loved the campus and atmosphere (Seattle ftw) and being directly admitted into the CSE program (top 10 nationally) helped too. I ended up choosing somewhere else, but I’m sure I would have loved spending the next four years at my “safety school” either way :)

Thanks this was interesting

Very nicely written aptly describing the feeling of all the students at the beginning of their college lives.

I <3 this article

Really speaks to me.

Was it wrong if I was scrolling down to see if the author posted the stuff about her academic transcript, extracurriculars, standardized testing, etc.

Thanks for sharing! What a beautiful article. She is absolutely right. Although some of us have been raised and pressured to go to these certain schools (Ivies), every college is special in their own way. The most important part is NOT the school name but the passion and worthwhile experiences of college. It’s like judging a book by it’s cover. Explore different opportunities every body. Don’t let the media or other people influence you negatively otherwise. Most importantly, we are working hard and striving for a high education–something we all should be appreciative of! Good luck to every body on their studies! :)

Yes, indeed, MD Mom, super bright kids do go to their safeties. One of my D’s friends, a NMF, was waitlisted at Yale (and you don’t get waitlisted unless you’re qualified to go), and accepted at several highly competitive schools, but chose St Olaf because she thought it was the best fit for her.

Great article. Well done .

The St. Olaf admissions rep talked to my daughter at a college night in Maryland. The next week, DD received a lovely personal letter from the rep. Gotta love the Midwest.

You set the bar unrealistically high. There are few things in this world that are 100% guaranteed. Does every student that gets accepted at their dream Ivy and enrolls have the fantastic time they envisioned?

^^^We know a student who completed freshman year at Brown this year and was miserable there.

Good day to bump these wise words.

Seconded, especially with today’s massacre known as Ivy League Decision Day.

I got into my dream school, and I’m kind of sad I won’t have the option to attend one of my safeties…

(Dream school = University College London, safeties = Florida State and the University of Maryland at College Park)

interesting article!! I’m so glad she is are being so positive :)
