@hookem168: Why would he hate UChicago if he sent his daughters to the UChicago Lab Schools, which are run by the university?

^ My point is, he’s explicitly SAID how much he disliked it. Your above question just reiterates the politician’s habit of political pandering :)

hookem, he never once explicitly said he “disliked the university of chicago”. he was implicating all private institutions that have poor town gown relations, especially with poorer constituents. if anything, he was criticizing a negative aspect about chicago but never did he say he dislikes the school.

Since people frequently refer to the top school in their region as “The Harvard of the West,” “The Harvard of the South,” “The Harvard of Canada,” etc., it’s probably Harvard.

Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Columbia, Brown, Georgetown, NYU, UCLA, Notre Dame, Boston College, U Wisonsin-Madison (This was always “The Party School” in my mind, not sure whether it’s actually true)

I think of Michigan, Georgetown, Penn State. And also Dartmouth because of Animal House.

Harvard doesn’t immediately pop in to my head when I try to imagine the typical college experience, mostly because of the high exclusivity. Clearly all the schools I mentioned are becoming more exclusive, but I think they retain their past reputations of providing the classic college experience.

famous:
HYPSM
columbia, cornell, penn, berkeley, UCLA, michigan, duke, Johns hopkins, chicago, Northwestern, NYU, Georgetown, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Florida, UNC, Penn State

Famous and WORTHY (as in, academically worthy):
All of the above MINUS: Ohio, FLorida, Penn State

"If you never thought of Duke near top 5 schools, check the USNWR rankings for the past 20 years. We’ve gone all the way up to 3rd, and never been lower than 8th.

■■■■■ @ “sports school.” No moreso than Stanford. It’s called a well-balanced environment full of well-balanced students."

Why do Duke students keep comparing their school to Stanford? Wishful thinking, perhaps?

The fact that Duke was once ranked 3rd (lol) proves just how stupid and ridiculous the USNWR rankings are!
