Thanks alamemom for the info! I removed my question because it’s not in the right place.

Just a note. If you submit taxes and other paperwork on, say March 1, but when you log on to your financial aid site and it says it was reviewed March 15, in reality you did get it in on time. They use the date of submission and not the date they review it. They do have the times and dates when paperwork was faxed (considered submitted) or downloaded (considered submitted).

Alamemom…if you are out there and read this. I was wondering if you know the answer to this. I revised my FAFSA last night. Everything I have read says to revise your SAR too. I looked on the website and I don’t see how to do that, unless a new one is automatically generated by the revised FAFSA. Here is my main question though. Is the revised FAFSA sent to the Financial Aid Department, or do I need to send a copy to them?

Thanks for answering if you have the time. I just can’t locate that answer anywhere.

Your exactly correct - the new SAR will be generated by your FAFSA correction - you do not need to send it. As long as USC is listed as one of your receipients on your FAFSA, they will receive the corrected FAFSA automatically (some applicants who applied to more than 10 colleges may have had to delete and resubmit to get the FAFSA to all of their colleges - for those that did that, then you need to go through the same process to be sure all schools get your correction).

The corrected FAFSA should show up on your documents list within about 3 days. Don’t worry if it doesn’t moved to the “reviewed” section right away - financial aid will now be as swamped as admissions has been up 'till now: they have approximately 4,800 financial aid packages to assemble in the next week and a half!

Thanks alamemommy!!

I know, my heart is with them. They have such a huge amount of work to do.

Does anyone know when we will actually be notified of our financial aid? I couldn’t find anything on the USC website.

My first thought is to tell you to look through this thread - that answer appears in it at least a few times… but the thread IS up to 10 pages now and a bit long to look through so I will just go ahead and answer: The end of the first week in April.

For those about to ask new financial aid questions, can I ask you to at least look through the first two or three pages to see if your question is answered there? (Your answer isn’t in those first few pages, cdr777, it is pretty well hidden!)

Thanks!

Alamemom, does this mean as early as this Friday as the first of April is Thursday? Or at the end of the first FULL week of April which would be the weekend of the 9th?

In the past it has been closer to the 8th or 9th.

alamemom, thanks for answering my doubts on how 529 plans & UTMAs are considered for financial aid. I know this is off topic but wondering if anyone can shed light on how custodial UTMA funds on a child’s name can be moved to a 529 college savings plan. We were told that the money in custodial UTMA accounts can be used for any expenses towards the child including braces, paying for extra currucular activities, vacation etc. The plan is to withdraw money from UTMA (keeping record/receipts for everything) and move the money to 529 plans. Just want to make sure that it is allowed and is not considered fishy or improper.

I don’t know the answer to that one, but I have seen it come up on the financial aid forum. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/financial-aid-scholarships/ I don’t know whether they were able to answer it, but there are some VERY knowledgable people over there - very good answers come from swimcatsmom, thumper1, 'rentof2, and kelsmom (who is a FAO).

Hmmm… looking at the above sentences, I suppose it would also be appropriate to ask a financial advisor or accountant in addition to the Disney-esque characters I listed…

Thanks for the pointer. I will go through those discussions. BTW, we got the advice from a financial adviser but not one that we paid for but in casual conversation. So we were wondering how serious the advice was. Thx

Hello! I’m a transfer applicant for this coming fall to USC and I am currently having problems with my financial aid stuff due to my current status here in the US (I am not a citizen nor a greencard holder. However, I have a pending application to the USCIS to register as a permanent resident and I have the receipt with me. Plus I already established 3 years residency here in California) . I just wanted to make sure, having problems with FA won’t affect my admission correct?

I was told by some people that it won’t. I just wanted to double check with you guys if you know anything about this by any chance Thank you!

No, your financial aid eligibility will not affect your admission either way. USC is need-blind in admission.

Good luck!

I faxed in my parents schedule A tax returns but they lost it and now require it again. I’m so worried again since this is the document holding my aid package back. I hope I won’t get a reduced amount of aid because of this. I faxed it last week. :/

franz, the dates your tax documents are received or reviewed will not result in reduced aid. So don’t worry about that.

Most packages will be available by about April 8th or 9th, but a few may be a bit later both because paperwork is still being received or because they simply have a LOT to do in the financial aid office right now!

alamemom, will this be coming through the US mail or via email or on the portal? My husband has been asking me when we can expect it and I told him probably the first week or so in April. Just curious as to how it’s delivered.

Thanks!

**alamemom posted:

They come both by postal mail **and **appear online on your financial aid page of Oasis. After the initial postal mailing, all changes will ONLY be online - there will not be further mailings with changes or corrections.

would that mean the aid info would appear online on April 1 or April 8/9?

It hasn’t been before April 8th or 9th in the last two years. (Online or mail.)
