FASFA financial qestion

I was putting in my daughter’s financial info on the form and I kept getting an error about the numbers not adding up. She earned only $600 in 2017 from a summer internship. Her current savings are close to $3000 because she worked in 2018 and also got money from grad gifts. So that is definitely not adding up if you skip last year and don’t account for those earnings. Is that what FASFA doesn’t like about the numbers? How do you get around that?

Also, I am not sure if the money she earned from the college internship/research job is considered regular wages or of it goes under the other question about cooperative education program? It was not taxed at all. It would not go in both places, right?

Thanks for any help!

I’ve got it figured out. I had to keep answering the question till it let me get past the error. I think it just wanted me to verify the numbers were right because they didn’t add up to her current bank account.

No. FAFSA does not do any kind of crosscheck between earnings from last year and the current balance in bank accounts. There are an infinite number of reasons as to why those numbers wouldn’t correspond.
