I’m paid for jobs I do such as babysitting and mowing lawns. I’m just a broke college student

Anyone else impressed that a college student can earn $16k per year just from mowing some lawns and doing some babysitting…while also going to college?

Colleges are going to wonder how you are getting by day to day. Food, rent, etc. They likely will not just swallow your $0 assertion. How do you plan to answer that?

No disrespect intended. But it is indeed illegal to not pay taxes on this type of income. You need to understand that. It’s not intended to be insulting but informational. Go ahead and file late.

OP knows it is earnings. He called in ‘under the table’ in the title, so he knows it is income.

Exactly right. A guy who pays you for mowing his lawn is, for the time you spend walking behind a mower on his property, your employer. A woman who pays you to baby sit her kid is your employer while you are doing the job.

These are very generous dollars for babysitting and lawn mowing, even if you assess this at $15 an hour, that is a lot of hourly work. For a person of this age this would be called childcare and property maintenance when you are at 20 hours a week.
