fasfa pell grant

I am single right now but and filled out a FASFA application ans was approved. I am planning on getting married before I start college will I need to fill out another FASFA application with my husbands income on the form? I have a son and my soon to be husband makes 36,000 + per yr in the AF. If I start school after I am married and dont report his income what happens?

You only need to do the FAFSA once, as long as they don’t ask for verification. FAFSA only has to be done once per year. You add your husband’s income as well as your son’s if applicable to the FAFSA NEXT YEAR.

If verification is asked for…it is usually to verify the information ON your filed FAFSA. It would also verify what your marital status was the day you filed your FAFSA.

However, as Bedouin noted…your marital status and husband’s income WILL have an impact on your financial aid in subsequent years.

Also…I don’t know about how Pell grants are done…if it’s by the term, then you might not be Pell eligible after you marry…I hope Kelsmom sees this…or Swimcatsmom. They both know about how Pell works regarding marital status and dispersal dates.

Afaik, marital status is one of the things that is set at the time you file FAFSA and is not updated unless it was incorrect as of the filing date. You can look it up in the FAFSA filing instructions. Next year’s FAFSA filing will reflect your new status. Congrats!
