I’m starting college as a freshman in the spring of 2017 which will be this January; however, I was wondering would that require me to do the FASFA of 2016-2017 or the 2015-2016 one? (I did neither)
That is part of the 2016-2017 school year…so that is the FAFSA you will complete.
And you can file that FAFSA (2016-17) now.
And use the 2015 tax return.
Why are you staring in the spring? Spring admits often get lousy aid.
Okay but would I be able to get the aid for that same semester or for the following one? Because you know how people who are starting Fall started doing their 2015-16 FASFA since January. So when will I get aid exactly?
No. People who are attending college this fall started doing their 2016-2017 FAFSA in January (at the earliest). If you are starting college in spring 2017, you can do the 2016-2017 FAFSA now, and you should get any benefits based on that FAFSA when you start classes.
You would probably only get aid for that semester you are attending, not the whole year.
NO…for the academic year beginning fall 2016…the FAFSA they completed was the 2016-2017 FAFSA.
But yes…it was available in January.
Do you need a lot of aid?
If you qualify for Pell you would get that no matter which semester you attend (1/2 each semester), but for SEOG, Perkins, Federal WS the college might have exhausted their funds for these by spring.
It might be better for you to wait until fall 2018 to start, and work and save somd money.
Did you ask the FA office about this?
Are you also getting a scholarship from the school and you are able to get this if you start in the spring?
