I want to get into fashion. I am keen on merchandising, PR and marketing. My dream is to work for a designer. I am an honor student (Nat. Honor Society, well rounded, lots of volunteer and community work and have great references. My GPA is 3.4. I do not test well but hope to do ok on my SAT's in June (I am a hs junior).

My mom wants me to look at the business programs at BU or Northeastern and perhaps the Public relations at Emerson. We also agree I should apply to FIT and Parsons (where I know a few alumni and can secure great references).

Does it behoove me to seek out a tradition 4 year biz school and focus on great internships (or in the case of Northeastern co ops ) or should I go right to FIT or Parsons?

I am ready for a big city and hard work.

Thanks

I currently go to FIT, and am looking to transfer. I am a Advertising and Marketing communications major. If PR is what you want to do then by all means apply to FIT. If it marketing then I would advise against it because you will end up in a lot of classes that have little to do with marketing an a lot to do with communications, PR and some Adv. Most FMM (fashion merchandising marketing) majors hate it although it is the largest major at the school. They get little work and most of them change to a different major for upper division. The one thing I have to warn you about FIT is changing your major isn't as simple as it would be in another school. Most of the time you end up starting all over from day one. For example as an AMC major my first semester was 4 major courses and 2 liberal arts. Once you change your major... all the major courses you took are meaningless. So just be sure of what you want when applying to FIT.
