im thinking of using ap credits to graduate in three yrs then grad school for phd

You can also do yourself a favor by taking summer courses. You may be able to finish it in 2 years.

Don’t rush it unless there is a financial reason. Graduate schools look for significant research experience and you are cutting that time short. You might be able to take that 4th year and get a Masters co-terminal degree, get a leg up on graduate school, and give yourself the time to prepare a strong graduate application.

But by fast-tracking it, you might not make good connections with profs. Those connections will be what gets you the research experience and letters of reference necessary to get into a good grad program/get good funding. Getting into undergrad isn’t all about speed, and neither is grad school!

I agree with the advice above. Don’t rush it. Take the time in your undergrad to get some research experience, and possibly take some upper level graduate courses.

I finished very, very, very fast (finished BA early, flew through my Ph.D.) and everyone who says “don’t rush” is absolutely right, especially if you are in a humanities field. I have been very lucky thus far in my career, however, especially at the beginning, I often wished that I hadn’t moved quite as fast, because it meant that some of my earliest work was simply not as mature or high-quality as I would have liked it to be. Research experience and maturity take time, and are worthy things to have. :)

What is your intended field, slushy?
