Fat and Socially Awkward

I agree pretty crazy Kenyon didnt take you and swarthmore and williams did. I do think that says something about the admission process and prediction of yield(they probably thought you wouldnt come). by the way Kenyon is a wonderful school but my son who also applied and i think similar to you. i would have concerns about him going to kenyon even though he got in. Kenyon is described as having a large greek system with the social life revolved around fraternity parties and drinking culture, as well as high percentage of div. 3 athletes. Not sure where socially a kid would fit in if he didn’t join the greek system and wasn’t in a sport. Swarthmore and Williams don’t have a greek culture.

I am completely non-athletic (in high school I was THE WORST in gym class- always picked last!), and I had a wonderful time at Williams. You will find friends who share your interests.

Swarthmore does have a couple of frats and seems like a really good fit socially.

@nw2this, what gives you the idea that the OP is looking for a frat experience? I don’t see that in his posts… the frats have been stirring up some controversy at Swat in the past couple years, too. Not sure they are a huge selling point…

@intparent

They were two separate thoughts. The frat thing was responding to post #20. I should have broken them up.

So what was the decision?

Hopefully Swarthmore.

He has til the end of the month. My D2 mulled her decision over for several days after her last accepted student visit.

@8bagels After visiting Williams, I felt as if they’re really isn’t a divide between athletes and non-athletes. I met a number of funny, welcoming, introverted, people throughout my time at Previews. Overall, I do not have any hesitations socially. I will probably commit to Williams once my finalized financial aid package comes in. I feel Williams will offer me a amazing education and an environment conducive for said education, even more so than the other colleges in my running (which includes both Swarthmore and Yale).

Nice–good to hear, and best of luck to you, @tim322 !

I think it would be a great choice for you, good luck!
