Can we kick Sally Rubenstone out. She is promoting her useless book.
I reported you. ;)

She's a "Super Moderator".

"Sally Rubenstone, senior counselor, CollegeConfidential.com"

She also works at CC.

JMarin,

LOL...You want to kick Sally Rubenstone off of CC? You reported her? She is the Senior Counselor at College Confidential....ya know, the people who own and operate these free forums?

I assume you can read. As Sally stated in her first post, Fat Envelope Frenzy is by Joie Jager-Hyman. You keep saying it is Sally's book! It is not Sally Rubenstone's book at all. Sally has written her OWN books. Sally shared a book that she has read with members here on CC as a resource that is very timely for those who are fretting and waiting their admissions outcomes. Members, not just CC staff, recommend resource books related to college admissions all the time on CC. Even off the forums and on the other pages of CC's website, there are recommendations of books. There is no promotion of "self interest" like you claim. The person recommending the book did not write it!

Thanks, Sally, for pointing this book out to students and parents at this time of year, so that they may read of others' experiences where rejections are a reality in elite admissions even for highly qualified students. I hope to read this book.

alpha & father: bcos they are less expensive to attend than many other colleges. Heck, for many folks in my state, attending HYP is cheaper than attending a UC at in-state prices. Of course, ya' gotta get into one of those three, first. :)

I like the title.

jmarin: Unless you think Joie Jager-Hyman is Sally's pen name, I'm not sure what you're on about. Also, fyi, Sally is one of the most helpful, caring people I've ever had the good fortune to encounter. Turn of your Cynical for a moment and consider the possibility that they actually help people here.

Personally, I'd rather read a book about non-stellar students acheiving greatness in later life. Who cares about great high school students who have disappointments. Trust me, I know enough of them up close....

I'll read the book; it sounds like something I'll enjoy.....I read The Overachievers; now D goes to school with several people from that high school at UMD....

I ordered my copy of FEF :)

I'd love to hear thoughts on Fat Envelope Frenzy from those of you who read it. Meanwhile, I'll encourage Joie to do a follow-up book in a couple years--or at least an article--that tells us how the stars of her story fared in college. I also really like hpg 90's suggestion of a similar book that profiles less stellar students who flourish later on.

I just finished the intro, author's note, and the first chapter. I'd like to say that this book is GREAT! I'm really enjoying it.

i read the intro and the author's note. its partially hilarious and partially enlightening. this is my read while i await decisions 17 days from now.

If Felix doesn't get into Harvard (I'm still on chapter 3), I'm going to be outraged. ^_^

NO WAY... That Andrew in the book lives(ed) in New Orleans. Sweet. Now I have to stay up late tonight reading this.

Book was an enjoyably interesting read.

Would like to know something though and will try to phrase question so as not to spoil "results".

At least one student who after reading the book appeared bound for Harvard is not in the Harvard Freshman Book - what happened?

I enjoyed the book. It reads like a novel and I was rooting for all of the students. I really felt for one of the students who it seemed like she really wasn't getting good advice, especially about financial aid. Although they all applied to Harvard, I don't think the book really focuses on Harvard admissions, but elite schools in general, which was a plus for me.

OdysseyTigger- maybe the student in question took a gap year?

No, student is there and quite googleable

Must just be an issue with the freshman book - (or my eyesight)

vanity
pride
money lol

ego boost. thats about it.

im applying. lol

Hey, have anymore of you guys bought the book? If so, what did you guys think of it?
My little sister is going to be a senior next year, and I was thinking of getting her one of these types of books.
It'd be awesome to hear more of what you guys think before I go out and get it.
