Father died in Nov 2004, what do I do now?

My dad died recently so we no longer have the income we had had for 2004. My mom also worked a little bit (self-employed) throughout the year. I spoke with a financial aid adcom from another university and she told me to just include her income (which shows up as a loss) and not my dad's for now. However, by doing show my EFC is 0. Should I do this for now and explain more indepth if they contact me later? There is space on the CSS to explain this situation but not on the FAFSA.

Also, for the FAFSA itself, once I get the SAR, is it ok to do the revision thing and erase the 6 schools and send to more? How do I do this?

first off, i'm really sorry about your dad.

i think you can explain in the css and just put in the numbers for the fafsa. when you get your sar, just send a correction sar to the new schools without actually making corrections to it (besides the colleges thing). there are more threads on the 6+ schools topic. just do a search for "fafsa six or more schools" or something along those lines. good luck.

I'm very sorry about your loss, legendofmax.

Many schools have their own financial aid app form, too, which may have an area for additional info. If you don't feel you have had an opportunity to explain your situation, write a letter to the financial aid office. Also, if you feel that a particular school hasn't recognized your situation when you get your award, contact the financial aid office there and find out what the review/appeal procedure is. Good luck!
