We’re looking to take our then 19 and 21 year olds over Xmas break likely to Riviera Maya or Jamaica. Any places you would recommend, or places to avoid? Probably prefer an adult only resort but would consider others. Budget in the 9-11k range. Thanks for any advice.
Riu Palace Jamaica
Jumby Bay, Jade Mountain, The Caves
My daughter’s family is going to Jumby Bay in April but given the privacy of the accommodations, you won’t see too many kids. If you want an all adult only resort, choose a high end one that is not inclusive, there’s less chance of seeing too many people with alcoholic breath all day long.
I always enjoyed Club Med in my Wall Street days. Easy, took care of everything on a fixed price except for alcohol and excursions. Maybe not the most luxurious accommodations, but plenty of activities, especially sports based activities, and people were friendly and relaxed. I got my scuba certification at Turks Caicos, where the water and marine life is extraordinary.
We have stayed at this 18 and over all inclusive and liked it:
The resort is peaceful and luxurious with good food (at least when we stayed there that was the case). It is located in the lush forest so it is not directly on the beach but there is a shuttle that takes you to the resort’s private beach a short ride away.
My daughter’s boyfriend took her to punta Cana over winter break, they are poor college students so I can’t imagine it was that pricey. They loved the food (foodies) and entertainment, the pools and ocean, booked some adventures. Their resort was family friendly but not a kid fest (like Beaches), although a sister resort is adult only. Barceló Bávaro Palace Hotel | Barcelo.com
