Our son is lucky to receive admissions from Fay, Bement and North Country School. It is a tough decision! He likes them all and so do we. How will you choose them? Any parents have earlier experiences with the schools?

In http://www.greatschools.org, some parents felt that Fay is only interested in your money. We have limited means to spend on kids' education, but not much more on donoations. Does anybody feel the pressure of class? Anybody went to North Country? Do they have as a strong academics as Fay and Bement? Thanks!

Our daughter will be attending Bement in Sep. as a boarder in 7th. I am in love with the school !

I know a girl who currently attends Fay and will be attending Deerfield in the Fall. From what she’s told me, she loves the school.

@Scholar16 you just contradicted yourself. You said that Fay only cares about the rich white kids, but you also said that they cater scores to Asians. It doesn’t matter, I have a feeling that you’re a ■■■■■ any way.

I appreciate any comments. It is such a big decision.

Unless greatschools.org has many reviewers who consistently complain about the same issue, I wouldn’t worry about 1 negative review.

Try using the Search feature in CC. Try searching on the school name. Also search on the word ‘JBS’

Also try boardingschoolreview.com. It lists school stats and has some reviews.

Since u have a boy and are considering Bement, have u looked at Eaglebrook? It is considered ‘the’ school for boys in that area. It has rolling admissions.

scholar16 GROW UP !! We are here to support and help each other you A**!!
Sep14 is it not late in the hour for decision making ?

@scholar16, I don’t mind my kids meeting rich children. You will find them in every private school. What I do care is whether a school teaches the chidlren right. Do they receive a good education and develop a sense of responsibility? There are plenty of wealthy people out there. Some contribute back to the society while others exploit the system.

My concern is whether teachers treat students differently because of their family wealth. It is one thing to ask for donation from parents, but another thing to use this information to discriminate students. Since we are a family of moderate means, I hope to hear some very honest experience. Thanks!

Whatever you have to say about Fay from your own experience is no doubt valuable, but let’s not taint all these schools. Bement is not a rich school, does not favor rich kids, and has lots of middle class kids who are very well treated. In part, they can do this because they have access to so many of Deerfield’s facilities, so they don’t need to provide their own. But even Eaglebrook (mentioned by another poster), which DOES have plenty of rich kids, and certainly DOES solicit donations, does not discriminate against those who are not rich. My DS was there, we are NOT rich and never gave them more than a token amount, but in terms of placement in classes and teams-- and in terms of recognizing accomplishments and giving awards, they were always very fair.

I believe Bement has hard working, ambitious students. A highly qualified faculty and as daykidmom pointed out access to brother school Deerfield. As for schools discriminating against those who are not rich ??? I have yet to encounter that and did not get the impression that $$ matters at Bement. I think they want smart kids.
I hope this helps you.

See whether the kids are required to perform regular chores at school. It helps to instill a sense of pride & ownership in the maintenance of the community. That was one aspect we liked about Loomis-Chaffee (Loomis is a high school, not middle school).

We have one child boarding at Fay, & the school has not struck us as catering to the rich. Also, Fay has a strong secondary school placement program.
