Fee Waivers???

I have a few questions about application fee waivers. My family falls smack-dab in the middle financially… we aren’t well off, but I can’t complain of scraping at the bottom of the barrel for money either. The problem is that these application fees are coming up all at once, and after other expenses, my dad says we can only afford to pay for 3 or 4 application fees right now… but I’m interested in applying to 10 schools, some of which have fees up to $75.00! Can someone like me get a fee waiver, or are they reserved for families who severely stuggle financially? If so, how do I go about getting a fee waiver? Thanks!

Ask at your HS.....the guidance dept will know if they can give you one. Also, many schools waive the fee if you apply online. I would also contact some of the admissions offices at the colleges you are thinking about and ask what you can work out......speak up and don't be shy.

are Ivies pretty good about granting fee waivers? because I'm applying to a couple highly selectives, and as far as I know, their applications aren't free if you apply online.

The folks in the admission office are there to help you.....now is a good time to call them. This is the kind of thing they can help you work out. I would contact each school on your list and then I would use your funds for the ones who don't give you a waiver.

this is a stupid question, but do they send you a piece of paper that says "fee waived" or something that you include in your apps., or do they just take note of it in their system? i guess it doesn't matter much, i was just curious...

You really need to research this yourself. I think that schools want to hear from the student when fees are a problem. You can do this. Or you can have your dad do it if you are not up to the task.

thank you... I am up to the task, I only wanted to know what to expect when I give them a call since I don't really know how the process works. I'm sure a lot of others would have the same questions....
