HOw hard are these? IF you just show up and participate, do u get a Pass??
Can you ditch these classes occassionally?

just go to the first couple ones and if they are too hard for u, drop the class.

I'm wondering the same thing. are there finals/midterms for Fiat lux seminars?

I looked at the schedule for some fiat lux seminars, and some of them only require you to meet on certain days. For example, for HNRS 19 Fiat Lux Sem. (LGBT is Not a Sandwich: Straight Talk on Gay Issues in America), class meets on October 4, 11, 18, 25, and November 1, which isn't so bad.

"LGBT is Not a Sandwich: Straight Talk on Gay Issues in America" :D
^ funny title.

"HOw hard are these?"

not hard at all. nothing's graded.

"IF you just show up and participate, do u get a Pass??"

yes.

"Can you ditch these classes occassionally?"

no. well, most fiat luxes are 5 classes. i think you have a maximum limit to ditch only 1. if you ditch 2, i think it's considered failing. besides, it's in a small discussion setting, so everyone will know that you're not here, and the only thing the prof wants is your participation.

"are there finals/midterms for Fiat lux seminars?"

no. most just require participation. some have reading assignments to facilitate that. but no tests.

wow sounds like Fiat lux seminars are pretty easy and also interesting. wonder why my OC didnt recommend engineers to take it...
She said it was waste of time for us. :/

Fiat Lux can be bad for your GPA if you want to go to grad school. Some schools view a Pass as the same thing as a C.

Wont the UCLA transcript indicate that the fiat lux is a 1-unit seminar and not a "real" course? i plan on going to business school and if fiat lux seminars compromise that, then i might drop 'em...

"Some schools view a Pass as the same thing as a C."

maybe, but one unit won't make a difference. as for law schools, i heard they omit the P/NP classes.

"i plan on going to business school and if fiat lux seminars compromise that, then i might drop 'em..."

business school GPA's are relatively low and not as significant as other factors. work experience is #1, and then GMAT score, GPA, employer recommendation, etc. (i'm talking about top business schools though, not the ones where you can get an MBA straight after undergrad). business schools care more about what you've done AFTER college than what you did in college.

would this affect gpa/view for med or pharm schools

bump bump bump bump bump

you know how fiat lux does pass/no pass. does ucla consider the pass as a C? im wondering because i want to qualify for honors after my first quarter.

UCLA won't consider it as a C. They'll even give you honors credit for the Fiat Lux.

thats a relief. then what do they view it as?

Will I receive an honors content notation on my transcript even if I am not a College Honors student?
Yes! A grade of P will carry an honors content notation on the transcript for all students whether they are in College Honors or not.

where do you find these answers emme??! :p

Ahhh I already knew it was P/NP so I googled quickly...

i was looking at all the seminars today....gosh there are soooo many interesting ones..

Yeah and they're all filled up :[

there's always next quarter!
