If i had the honor of getting into both and having a choice, what would be the better option for a film major? Columbia is closer to where I live (which is very important to me) but it’s Ivy League so it would take a lot of work to be accepted and it’s far from California, which is where I’m planning to hopefully end up going eventually. UCLA is in California and close to all the opportunities for film (another thing very important to me), but a 5 hour flight away and not a prestigious. What school would look better in the film industry? What would you choose?
IMO the college process is stressful enough without worrying about hypothetical situations. Don’t agonize about things until you actually have the choice. You would need to get into both schools and both schools would have to be affordable before they would be genuine options for you. For film you might also consider NYU and USC.
Make no mistake! UCLA Film (ranked 4th in the nation with <4% admission rate) is as selective as your other option …if not more! So make sure you have enough match/safeties in your school list.
UCLA, definitely. Being close to the industry much more important than Ivy League status. I’d take USC over Columbia as well.
But first you gotta get in
