Film Production and Environmental Studdies?

I'm looking for a school with both a strong film production program (I want to do documentaries) and environmental studies. I can't seem to find anything.

Preferably, I'm looking for a medium or small liberal arts school that has an outdoor trip program.

If anyone has any suggestions, it would be appreciated!
Thanks!

Chapman University has the Schmidt College of Science and Technology and Dodge College of Film and Media. Might fit the bill…

ORANGE, Calif. – A $3.6 million gift from the Dhont Family Foundation of Santa Ana, Calif. to Chapman University will establish the Dhont Family Foundation Documentary Film Center in the planned Millennial Studios expansion of Chapman’s Marion Knott Studios, as well as supporting an innovative Chapman documentary film project that is assisting local community organizations.

Three million dollars of the gift will go to the $50 million Millennial Studios Campaign to create the documentary center, augmenting the already robust documentary film program within Chapman’s Dodge College of Film and Media Arts. The center will dramatically enhance the university’s resources and facilities for student and faculty documentary filmmakers.

»School of Earth & Environmental Sciences:
Chapman’s interdisciplinary School of Earth and Environmental Sciences incorporates faculty with expertise in chemistry, biology, environmental science, ecology, earth science and remote sensing. Faculty conduct internationally recognized research while maintaining a small school level of faculty-student attention and interaction in their mission to teach undergraduates and graduates about how to analyze, understand, and ultimately sustain and conserve earth’s interconnected systems.

Our current research includes the speciation and bioavailability of heavy metal pollutants in mine tailings in Southern California carbon cycling in wetlands, invasive plant ecology, bird nesting and mating behavior, neural development in intertidal organisms, and the use of remote sensing and modeling of satellite data to study air pollution and climate change impacts. Undergraduate and graduate students are active collaborators on these research projects.

As our society becomes more conscious of the extent of environmental threats, job growth in fields requiring the expertise garnered from this school is expected to increase. Additionally, alumni have gone on to careers in environmental consulting and science and to graduate and professional studies at Harvard University, Carnegie Mellon, Columbia, Berkeley, USC, UCI, UC Santa Barbara, and Keck Graduate Institute.

Maybe Ithaca College?

Or, possibly, Loyola Marymount in Los Angeles. It’s small-to- midsize, gorgeous campus, with a good film program and a minor in Env Studies. Not sure if they have an UG major in Env S.

Look at Montana State, decent film program, good rep for nature, environmental documentary. Great location for communing with nature.

American University might fit for you. Supposed to be one of the best for documentary production. I was doing my own little urban nature walk on the Washington DC mall a few years ago and came across a booth that was manned by both George Mason U and American U people, collaborating on something related to environmental awareness as I recall.

I don’t know your stats, but take a look at Stanford and Cornell. Stanford has top-rated documentary program as well as a top-rated environmental science program. Cornell has a film production program (not sure about documentary), as well as an excellent environmental science program.

Stanford Documentary Film is at the Masters level. UC Santa Cruz might be a good fit… Where are you located?

I’m in Maryland. I’ll have a 3.5+ college GPA and I got a 1950 on my SAT.
