On the first page of the Common Application, toward the bottom, there’s of course a question that asks whether or not the applicant plans to apply for financial aid. If yes, another question asks on what date the form was/will be filed.
What are they expecting here? A real date on which I will certainly file the forms?

<p>Well, I think for most schools FAFSA is due February 1st, or something like that. So I'm putting 01/2005</p>

<p>You're supposed to put the month and the year, just like dreamsicle and neobez said. Different schools have different deadlines for the Profile, FAFSA, and their own forms, so definitely check those.</p>
<p>I asked my GC the same question, and she said to just put an estimated date, so February 2005 should be fine.</p>
