fin aid

I’m really interested in baylor but I’m really worried about the money part. How generous is baylor? My efc is 0…

My D will be a junior this coming fall. The campus is beautiful and the people are great. Please check out the Baylor website. They have a financial aid calculator on their home page. They do give merit money based on GPA, Class Rank and ACT/SAT test scores.

Good Luck

It’s easy to get the crap scared out of you when you look at the sum of all the things you have to pay for at Baylor. I am in a similar situation as you, but my EFC actually was about $3,000. Of course, I was worried about financial aid too, but trust me, Baylor’s financial aid is pretty generous.

Gymmom is right with the merit-based scholarships. It might be worth retaking the SAT/ACT because you get a couple more thousand dollars. There are departmental scholarships for entering freshmen as well.

If you just keep a high GPA, class rank, and a great SAT/ACT score, you can get a pretty good merit-based scholarship, and then Baylor will probably give you a good need-based scholarship as well. Since you filed the FAFSA you’ll probably qualify for a Pell Grant and then some Stafford Loans. If you need some additional money you can take out a PLUS loan, but if you get denied for that, you can get another Stafford loan.

My advice is just keep in touch with the people in the financial aid office at Baylor. They’ve been a lot of help with me and I think they can help you as well.

Good luck!

haha thanks!
what would be a good ACT score for me to reach for, for a merit based scholarship?

how do you/your daughter like baylor??

I got about $44,000 with a 29 ACT and class rank of 3/243, but 32 and above is when it really makes a difference. You can get up to about $58,000 over 8 semesters so just try to aim as high as possible.

And if you’re interested in the Honors Program, they have a scholarship that gives out $3,000 a year, which can make a difference as well.
