fin and and 2 different universities

Im transferring to a different university this coming year, but have a slight dilemma.
I have very little money saved up right now (even working a full time job) and iv still got rent to start paying starting next month on my apt. The university im transferring to is giving me more than enough financial aid (in loans) to cover tuition, is there a way I can get them to give me a slight bit extra to help cover books too? Also, If I register for classes at my old university and get a private loan to pay for tuition there, then drop a few classes to get the refund...will that work? Or is that a bad idea?
Any and all input is appreciated

Why don’t you just get a private loan for you NEW university? It makes no sense for you to register at the old university for ANY reason. You are no longer going to attend that school.

If all you are looking for is book money…have you also looked at ways to save buying books…buying used online?

Can your parents loan you the money for books? Can you do something like housesit, mow lawns, pet sit or baby sit to earn extra money to use for books?

Well, the thing is it’s not just book money I would be needing. My parents don’t have any extra money to lend me so im on my own there, and right no my full time job with the university doesn’t pay very well. I was just thinking of applying then dropping the courses to get the refund so I have some extra money behind me for whatever (future rent, car parts, gas etc) I was thinking it wouldn’t hurt to have some extra money in the bank just in case

You do not want to jeopardize your financial aid at your NEW school…including your stafford loans. You cannot be enrolled as a student at TWO schools just to collect loans…sorry…you just can’t.

As with others who have posted recently about finances…the financial end of schooling needs to be factored in BEFORE you apply…or at the very least before you accept an enrollment at a school. YOU and your family are responsible for paying the bills.

I know this isn’t the best economy but go out and find a second summer job.

If you and your family cannot pay the college bills, you may have to rethink your enrollment plans.
