Vandy expects my family to pay approx. 35k, and we cannot afford that. Has anyone had any success with appeals?

I found the Financial Aid office at Vandy to be very easy to work with when discussing an increase in my daughter’s aid package. Is there anything concrete that you can point to in your financial aid calculations that you believe is incorrect? For example, I had a one-time non-taxable transaction last year that substantially increased (by $10k or so) my calculated EFC. I didn’t feel that my EFC accurately reflected my income. After calling the office and discussing this issue, the Financial Aid officer agreed with me and immediately gave me a revised aid package that was much more in line with what I could really afford.

If your EFC is accurate for your family’s situation I doubt you will have much luck getting an increase. If there is anything that you think is overstated or incorrect, give them a call and talk through your issue(s) with them. Good luck!

Thanks for replying, I guess my parents will give it a shot.

Give it a shot! My mom just went in and asked them about it and we got almost double what we had initially!

@Future- Did your mom do the paperwork for an appeal, or did she just call and ask about it? It’s great that you guys got double! Did you have any “concrete” stats like DoreDad did?
