hey guys, gotta say i really enjoyed reading these posts! it kind of gave me an overview of the academic comparisons between the two schools. essentially, theyāre marginally different!! so thanks for that :)

i actually donāt know. i was very surprised when i got into tulaneās honors program (as i had not expected to because of chance threads on here) so when i did, i was definitely shocked, and it was probably my ACT scores that got me in (32 ACT, 3.6 unweighted GPA with most rigorous curriculum). itās been two weeks since my pitt acceptance and i havenāt gotten anything about the honors program, i called and they said it would have come with my initial acceptance so i guess iām not in. if i do go to pitt though, iāll probably petition to get in after first quarter, or someone on here suggested to send them a letter to reconsider my honors college acceptance & merit scholarships (which i will probably send in january). both of these donāt make a huge impact (or really, any impact) on my decision, so thatās why i posted on here.

is there anybody on here that could tell me anything about minnesota??

sounds like Tulane really wants youā¦ between honors program and scholarship, that makes it an attractive alternativeā¦good luck whatever you choose, and if you have the chance you should definitely try to visit as others have suggested.

Iām thinking Tulaneā¦but visit them first. The visit was really what made my decisionā¦I felt completely āhomeā at PC and felt like a cool tourist at Tulane. Did I like Tulane? Yes, immensely. Did I like PC more? Yes. I think itās going to come down between Tulane and Pitt for you, but please donāt sell yourself on a school before youāve visited. You could end up hating it. You have until May 1st to mailā¦and attractive as senioritis sounds, watching your grades fall is not that fun. Haha. Congrats on getting into such awesome schools. Youāll figure this out. Enjoy your break for the time being.

i really donāt have the diligence to read all of these posts, but Iām a tulane '14er and LOVE it here. i have so much insight regarding housing, so if you need to know about that, please PM me later on.

last year i got into Pitt (although it wasnāt really a top choice for me) - it was between Mich & Tulane for me, mostly, but if Pitt had offered me honors it would have been a top choice, too)
ANYWAY, I have a good friend at Pitt and know nothing about Minnesota, but know a bit about Ohio State. I will say that I thnk the other 3 schools are better academically in terms of national rankings, but even so, I donāt trust those rankings. Tulane ranks a lot lower than it should (and Iām not just saying that because Iām a biased TU student who loves the school). That being said, however, if you go to any of these top schools, youāll get a great education, so it really all comes down to the experience and opportunities - where youāll have the most fun and meet the most similar, genuine friends. Like I said, I have lots of info about Tulane regarding all of that, and I donāt know your personality so I donāt know how youād be at a huge school like Ohio State - but just know (at the risk of sounding snooty) that it attracts 2 main demographics: smart in-staters and privileged East Coasters. But I suppose you could say more or less the same thing about Tulaneā¦ although Iām an East Coaster but definitely not into the Party Scene.
Your choice really depends on your personalityā¦ (but fyi, I also have a lot ofjudgmental opinions about each school (except minnesota) )

So itās basically come down to Tulane vs Ohio State for me. Iām leaning towards Tulane majorly, but Ohio State has the edge financially. Still have Tulane left to visit but OSU was nice!

I guess Iām just worried about the Ohio State jock stereotype. I feel like the atmosphere at Tulane is more my style (work hard, play hard) and Ohio State is moreā¦play hard. I also feel like the academic opportunities/atmosphere at Tulane is better but i donāt know.

Any insights?

Oh, and I am still interested in Pittā¦itās just that thereās nothing drawing me there. I feel like the competition is fierce as a pre-med which isnāt good for me, Iām not a huge fan of living in New England, and it just felt kind of boring to me, but idk.

Just as a point of fact, Pennsylvania is not New England and Pittsburgh especially is far more midwest than east coast. It is nearly on the border of both Ohio and West Virginia. I am pushing Tulane of course, but it is important you have the right facts. But that is just geography anyway, since you have been to visit you know what it is like.

Tulane sounds great! Good thing you arenāt majoring in geography! :)

To be fair, SLUMOM, I have found that most people that live outside of the east coast donāt know what states make up New England. In fact most people incorrectly include New York, and quite a few include Philly, if not all of Pennsylvania. Just the way it is.

That is probably very true & many people who live in California or Texas canāt understand how in New England we drive in and out of states all day long, very easily! :)

Hahahaha I know that Pitt isnāt technically in New England (I actually lived in the Penn State area for many many years, and I currently live in Maine) but I find that the attitude is VERY similar in Pennsylvania, parts of New York, and parts of Jersey so I just refer to it being in New England. Really, the whole East Coast feel is quite similar to be so I just refer to it as one thing, but my bad :P

As a native NYer who resides in Philly I can tell you that Pittsburgh does not at all have an East Coast/ New England feel it has a much friendlier midwestern flavor based on the two visits I have made there.

Having been there last weekend, I can also attend to it being an incredible sports town. The Steeler Nation vibe is everywhere.

Ah I just got scholarship money from minnesota, which i hadnāt expected.

So now Iām super confused!! I would take Minnesota over ohio state though, so I donāt know.

I really love Tulane, but I also love these other schools. Emailing the profs got me a great response from both sides, ARGH. The only difference I can see is that Tulane is more personal with smaller class sizes.

Did you say that you had not visited Tulane? If you have not, and you have the opportunity, you should visit to make sure it has the āfitā that you are comfortable with. This is not a comment directed at Tulane, a fine college, but rather in general.

Completely agree with that Bobby. Always the best thing if one can manage it. I think avenlea said she is going for Honors Weekend, which has one in March and one in April this year. So avenlea, if I am right about that, just relax until then. You have until May 1 to tell them, so take advantage of that time to just chill, let it all sink in, go see Tulane, and then you should know.

Alright I just wanted to update this thread a bit because whenever I google any information on these schools this thread pops up! So I figure this might be informational.
I was lucky enough to get to visit Pitt and Ohio State again, and this time for longer. Loved Pittās urban campus and down to earth student body, everyone was so friendly. I wasnāt really a fan of Pittsburgh the city, but I guess Iām odd in that way because everyone I talked to loved it! Kids were a lot nicer to me during Accepted Students Day than during my last visit.
Ohio State blew my mind the second time. I got a more in depth campus tour and Iām waiting on the decision from the Morrill Committee right now for full tuition and the community service scholarship from Tulane, but itās looking like OSU specifically because I feel like the environment there is great, while Pitt definitely has the edge in terms of funding in science research. I feel like I can still do just as great at OSU, but Iām not 100% sure, so if anyone knows anything about research as a pre-med, their own pre-med experience at OSU, or where pre-meds usually matriculate to med school that would be insanely helpful. I contacted a Pre-Med advisor but canāt speak with them for another couple of weeks so I figured Iād post on here.
And to anyone whoās a prospective Pitt student reading this, PITT IS MINDBLOWING. Honestly, if it was cheaper, I would go there in a heartbeat. Itās amazing for Pre-Medical opportunities, but I donāt think itās worth 10K more than OSU.

Fallen just disagrees with everything because Tulane is the ebst school ever lol

You are correct, the differences between Pitt and OSU are not great enough to make up for the difference in cost. As for where OSU pre-meds end up, have you asked that question in the Med School Forum? If you go to the forum main page, and scroll down, you will find it near all the grad school forums.
