Hey guys,
so I was just wondering what to do about my situation
I've had an A all year in english.
Our teacher, is reputed for being extremely laid back and hasn't given us an essay back all year
He honestly doesn't teach.
He's told me I was a very good student of his.
However, all second semester, he's been docking me participation points even though I know that I've participated a lot and he's told me. I talked to him about this and he told me that he'd be willing to round my grade (a 91 before finals) if needed.
So finals came by, grade dropped to an 89.7 (I've honestly no clue how he grades essays, most people do bad on this final)
I asked him to round me, and he refused, saying the he rounded me last semester, when in actuality I had a 95. He claims to have documentation of this, and still refused to do so when I showed him my first semester transcript.
I've emailed my counselor about this, but then again he's retiring, never responds to emails, and constantly lectures me about how I should go to community college and save my parents from going on food stamps, (I'm not even joking, that was a literal quote).
I don't wanna sound rude, or ungrateful or something, I'm just completely unsure as to what to do in this situation.

And for the sake of perspective, an A is a 90.5, however most teachers are pretty cool with rounding. One kid I know got an 88 rounded up to an A :p

bump

Yikes, you’re so close! Has the school year ended yet? Have you tried talking to him again in person? Some teachers unfortunately don’t keep their word and there’s not much you can do about it. With people like them, it’s best to not be borderline at all because when it comes to stuff like rounding up (which is admittedly at their discretion) they might not follow through.

I know how you feel. Something similar happened to me first semester of this year–I was a couple tenths from an A in AP Computer Science and my teacher claimed he’d round up, but after the semester ended refused to do anything about it. It really sucked, and I couldn’t do anything about it. Bummer…

If your school is still in session, I’d try to see if you can do an extra credit project or something. Don’t bring up your grades from last semester or get your counselor involved; focus on the grade you have in his class now and try to come up with a compelling reason as to why he should bump your grade up.

Best of luck!

Thanks for replying! The thing is, I’ve had a 93 most of the semester, and it slowly dropped as finals neared. School is out. I’ve emailed my teacher, and he just isn’t cooperating. I’ve given him all I can, how I loved his class (really I did), how he said he would bump me, how he didn’t round me, I even provided documentation…
I’m sorry about what happened to you, I totally get how you feel now
The thing is, I expected my gpa to be a 4.2, but now its gone down to a 4.1. Its not the best, I get it. Now I gotta work even harder next year for my gpa to rise, and it really really sucks cause english is considered an extremely easy class, and having a b in it is just…dissappointing

Maybe talk to another counselor…because it seems your teacher and counselor don’t support you.

I emailed the other counselor and got no response. I’ve now emailed the chairwoman of the english department :P

And I’m hoping for a reply. I honestly am not sure what to do…I don’t wanna sound annoying, yet I still want the A, mainly because of the reason he refused to round and the fact that he said he would, yet he didn’t.
