I just called Emory, and they said that they need my current semester grades (as in after the completion of the semester) before they can make a decision on my transfer app. I just wondered if a few of the other colleges to which I am applying will also require me to send in this semester's grades. Out the schools to which I applied, UPenn, Wesleyan, and Johns Hopkins are among those that send decisions after I finish this school year. Does anyone know if any of those schools require your complete 2nd semester grades before making a decision?

I talked to Emory and they said it would be a month turn-around from whenever one submitted his or her application, and did not say anything about needing final grades. Did they indicate if this was just in your specific instance, as in they had already reviewed your application but were unable to make a decision? What were your stats like, if you dont mind me asking. (I didn't end up applying to Emory, by the way)

I sent it over a month ago, and the lady from Emory said it was already being reviewed. It is not just for my specific situation. I don't feel like going through my stats, but I am not a borderline applicant anyway. I also asked if I could send in a mid-year report to get my decision earlier, rather than waiting until the end of the semester. She said that wouldn't make any difference. If I am lucky, this lady has no clue what is going on. She made a lot of comments that conflicted with some of her earlier statements, and I hung up the phone more confused. Oh well. All my other stuff is in, so I guess we'll just see how it turns out.

some schools require midyear reports or FINAL 2nd semester grades depending on the strenght of the application.

obviously midyears will be more convenient and require more trust. but if a school is somewhat dubious about your application, they will wait until your final semester grades before making a decision. don't mess up!

That is a pretty big assumption you are making. I am not trying to "bend the rules." I am sorry you came to that conclusion by my poor explanation of the situation. For Emory, I asked specifically if the final 2nd semester grades were required because they need more or extra information to reach their decision. According to her, the requirement is not limited to me. Applications for Fall semester transfers are due on June 1. Summer Transfer applications are due on April 1. It would make since that they need final transcripts if Fall applications are due after most school years have ended. She said that my application is actually being reviewed early. They do not require a mid-year. I simply asked about my options because many of the other schools that I applied to require you to commit to attending them by June 1. Do you see my conflict? There is nothing dubious going on here. What confused me about her statements was that I asked how they could review an application before everything is turned in. I was mainly confused on the issue of whether I could receive a decision prior to the submition of my final grades. I wasn't sure if the final grades were just necessary for the decision or just for evaluating how to award credit for previous classes. At any rate, I appologize for confusing the issue. My question isn't about Emory. I just want to clarify things, so my questions aren't dismissed as coming from someone who is shady and trying to gain admission through the side door. I mainly want to know whether final grades are necessary for the other schools I mentioned to make certain that I know what is required of me and what could affect the date of the release of my decision. It was a simple question with probably too much extraneous information about Emory. I am not concerned about "messing up" in terms of my decisions. My grades are good, and I need to maintain them anyway for grad school. I simply asked for clarification as a lot of this admissions information can be ambigous, and I, like everyone else, want to hear from the schools as soon as possible. I hope that makes sense.

Wait a minute. I was replying to MartiniBleux, and I can't see his/her post anymore.
