Final Thread - What Exactly Do Lawyers Do?

Hi everyone. I've been so appreciative of everyone's help, insights, ...years of wisdom and experience ...and overall friendliness and willingness to offer information and advice here!

I've learned so much! Seriously!!! Like probably way more than I could just reading some college website's law school admissions page (filled with all the positives and NO mention of some serious law related problems) or even talking to current law students (whom I've found often clueless too).

My gratefulness can't be expressed in words, so please just accept what I can say here. I'm very thankful!!!!!!

I have one final thread I'd like to make (I'll still post in existnig threads, but won't make any new ones anymore) and surprisingly it's also the most simple one.

I've read so much about how different legal work is from law school, how hard and gruelign it can be, and how boring it is to some....YET, surprisingly, I've read little to NOTHING about what law work actually entails - be it big law (which I'm most fascinated by) or small law.

So, can someone explain what a typical assignment working as a lawyer is like? From start to finish. What was the actual legal problem? From the start, how did you go about handling it? What did you have to do? How long did it take you to do it? How did you resolve the issue?

I'm particularly interested in big law work, because that seems the most mysterious to me. I've seen movies of people doing criminal law work (although not sure how accurate it is), but I literally don't even know what a big law associate does (from morning to night and from assignment to assignment). It's funny...because I don't think others I've talked to even know (pre-law folks). You often hear too that law grads say they were unprepared for legal work, because it's not what's taught in law school and how surprised they were by how different the work was from what they imagined.

Soooo, what exactly does a typical law assignment require? What do you lawyers specifically do all day? Key word: specifically!!

Thanks and it's time for me to bow out of these threads! It's been a pleasure everyone! God Bless!!!
