Finance & Banking at Fordham

Hi All,
I am a senior that has been accepted at fordham university and as the title suggests,I am interested in pursuing a career on Wall Street. I have a few questions and if you think you would like to answer them, you can answer any one that you feel most comfortable answering:
1) How strong is recruitment on a yearly basis?

2) What kinds of banks recruit there?

3)Often times you hear about cut throat competition in the finance industry, how hard is it to thrive in the finance program there?

4) Outside your top finance schools(NYU, UPENN,UMICH,UVA,EMORY,etc etc) How would you rank Fordham's finance program among the mid tier b schools, particularly Indiana bloomington U of Richmond, and Bentley because those are my other 3 options. Any advice offered would be very helpful thank you!

You really need to ask the Gabelli school directly about that. Some parents or students may also have opinions. What I do know is that Gabelli (business majors) have done very well on WallStreet and some WallStreet firms have Fordham alumni among their executive ranks. You can also do that research yourself through google.

Top students at Fordham get outstanding jobs and internships. Fordham alumni are zealous in helping Fordham students when networking. Fordham is highly respected in New York and other places.

But Fordham alumni work in banking all over the country at major banking centers. And law firms.

A lot of financial companies recruit from Fordham. One of the largest is definitely JPMorgan, as they do a lot of events on campus. We have had kids get jobs at Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, BNP Paribas, Credit Suisse, Citigroup, KPMG, Ernst & Young, Deloitte, PWC are also common, but JPMorgan takes a large chunk of kids.

Some very good business choices! All good schools. Let me point out a big minus and a big plus when comparing Fordham to the other fine, highly ranked schools especially when you look at rankings…

MINUS: Unlike all these other schools which have ONE school of business offering undergraduate and graduate degrees, Fordham has an undergraduate school of business (Gabelli) on one campus and a graduate school of business (Martino) at another. Not having all of the business facilities under one roof may have been a factor in Gabelli not getting a better ranking. What also has been seen as a hindrance for a higher ranking has been the fact that Gabelli has not had its own dedicated building. What is not considered is the dedicated faculty and the broad scope of education offered at Gabelli. This has been addressed and a building dedicated to Gabelli will open next fall. This will have a big impact on the rankings as it has been a negative in the past not having a dedicated facility.

PLUS: If you want a great job in Bloomington, Boston or Richmond, the other schools you mention will be ideal choices. If you want to work in the biggest market in America in the financial capital of the WORLD, come to NYC!!! Fordham has been in NYC for over 150 years and has very, very deep roots/connections. Where else can you get NYC internships, work opportunities and alumni connections than from a school in NYC? Fordham loyalty and support is the stuff of legends! To prove my point, I invite you to look at the lists of famous grads from each of your schools in Wikipedia……you might be surprised at the Fordham names you will see! Good luck in your decision.
