Finance careers after Stanford?

Does anyone know about/have had experience with the prospects of getting a mgmt consulting job (mckenzie, bain etc.) or an i-banking job (gs, morgan stanley etc.) after Stanford (economics major)? I know they recruit on campus, but what are the prospects of actually getting an internship/position of those who apply? (And for i-banking... cali IS quite far from NYC) Not that I'm certain I want to go into such a career, but I'm just curious as to whether getting one would be possible/probable... Thanks!

I just have a bit to add on to that question. How are the prospects of getting a consulting position if you're an engineering major? I know that quite a few engineering majors go on to become consultants/i-bankers, but is it harder to get a consulting job than those who have econ/finance degreees?

hey

1) it's mckinsey ;)
2) don't go into finance for the money! standard disclaimer, you know
3) management consulting is far from finance -- they're quite different
4) a freshman friend of mine has an internship at gs and i know more than enough seniors who are analysts at mckinsey. so it's quite possible...and stanford = harvard in this regard...

plenty of econ majors work for these companies. My friend who's an Econ major will start full-time at JP Morgan this summer (he did an internship there last summer and they offered him a job).

actually i would say that Stanford people would do their internship in LA rather than NYC coz of the proximity and general comfort...

i thoguth uw ere gonna go to harvard mlee
