just a few questions for you. I am an accounting major at my current university. I am wandering, should I continue with a MA in accounting or a MBA? Which will be more useful?

To clarify...

I mean after I graduate from college....... should i pursue a MA in accounting or a MBA degree?

I came across this thread when I was researching finance vs accounting. A little background, I graduated with Marketing/Media studies from Hunter College last year. After a year I decided it was not for me. I would live to exit from the Sales portion of the financial industry and not have to rely on solicitation for my bread and butter. I am geared towards Accounting as I feel it is a better fit for me. I applied to Baruch College as my first choice this past Feb. I found out while researching online that Baruch College will not let transfer students seeking a second bachelors enroll in their Accounting program. A concept that is lost on me. So, now I have a dilemma. Either I switch to Finance and go to Baruch provided I get in of course, or I can keep my major at accounting which is what I prefer and end up going to Queens College or Hunter. Which are good Cuny’s but not as good as Baruch for business majors. Any ideas and or advice is appreciated. Thank you.

Entrepreneur, you are making too much of an ado about Baruch’s policy. Accounting is a very intensive major, and they are probably right in that you won’t be able to double major. HOWEVER, no one says you can’t have a minor or take enough courses in other area to constitute a major.

That isn’t what he is talking about, he said that he graduated from Hunter College with a BS in marketing and now wants to get a BS in Accounting but Baruch doesn’t allow people to get a second bachelors if it is in Accounting.

Exactly what barrk123 said. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

After Baruch which Cuny would be best for accounting? Queens? Hunter? Brooklyn?

Would anybody venture a guess? I just need some advice before I move forward with this and execute a path?

I think Baruch is the only cuny with an accredited accounting program.

I got into Baruch!! But for Finance like I previously mentioned so the way I see it is. Baruch for Finance or Queens for Accounting. I am def gonna score some internships and my goal is to have a 3.5+ regardless of where I go and which major I study. So…Final piece of advice before I proceed? Anyone? Thank you.

I know that at the end of the day it is what I like and what I do with my degree. Baruch has the better name of course and is accredited as previously mentioned but from what I have read Accounting has the stability and more job prospects. I just dont want to be put as a back up by firms because I went to Queens for accounting and lose out on many opportunities and good jobs. Would it make sense to rather just do Finance at Baruch? Any advice is appreciated. Thank you once again to everyone.

Is it of any benefit that my major is a BS in “Accounting and Finance?” Sure, the concentration is Finance, but will some employers view it like a double major in Accounting AND in Finance?
