Accounting vs Finance - Binghamton Univ

I attend Binghamton University in the School of Management, which is highly ranked in the US. In fact, the accounting program is ranked #2 in the nation, following Boston College, for biggest feeder to the Big Four after graduation. Other programs in the School of Management, such as Finance and MIS are ranked as well, but definitely is not as prestigious as the accounting program.

I have a little bit more interest in finance because it seems to be more useful for my own knowledge (but I really don't know because I haven't taken any finance courses yet), but at the same time, I like accounting as well because of its better job prospects.

The only problem I have is, I won't have 150 credits for the CPA exam if I decide to do accounting by my 4th year, which means I will have to stay in school for my Masters (5 years total) as well in order to qualify for the CPA. If I do finance, I can graduate on time in 4 years.

Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

Why don’t you just keep putting out albums. And stay away from Chris Brown.

LOL jonahrubin. Best post of the year so far.

Finance at binghamton won’t get you anything, go with accounting. Also note that Binghamton is not #2 in the overall rankings.

I have to agree. Do accounting and your job prospects will be better, even it will take an extra year. Lots of accountants do finance later.
