Financial Aid and transfer chances

There's a question on my transfer application: "Do you intend to apply for need-based financial aid?"

If I check yes, will that lower my chances of acceptance? I'm applying to transfer to a number of schools.

absolutely NOT

Actually yes, it will lower your chances. Schools are in desperate need of full paying students and are more likely to accept a student who could pay for their education. Money for transfer students is extremely limited in most schools so you are competing not just for acceptance but also for that money. If you need it and believe you will get it (read had it at your previous institution) check the box, however, if you don’t think you will get the aid you might be better off leaving it unchecked.

Many of the colleges that are need blind for freshmen applicants aren’t that way for transfers, because they are looking for full pay students. Other times (like in freshmen admission), colleges will accept financially needy transfer students, but simply don’t have enough financial aid money to provide them a lot of financial aid.

Is there a list of colleges that do and don’t subscribe to need-blind policies?

You need to go to the websites of the colleges you’re interested in and read their FA policies for transfers. While there are lists of need blind colleges on the FA forum, these are for fr applicants and DO NOT necessarily hold for transfer students. Brown is one example of a school that is need blind for fr admissions and need aware and has limited FA for transfers.
