Financial Aid Appeal?

Hi everyone. I was accepted into the fall semester and received my financial aid package and unfortunately it is not reasonable considering my family’s income. I received nearly $46,000, with nearly $7,000 in loans, and the rest is up to my family. The rest meaning $22,000, while my mom only makes $22,000 (down from $26,000 after she lost her job). My mom is paying for my two other siblings college as well, with no help from my dad because they’re divorced and he is never any help. I applied to this school in hopes of more of my need being met (EFC: 343). I applied to outside scholarships, but I am not 100% sure that I’ll be receiving all of them. There is no chance for me to receive merit aid either, so I’m kind of at a cross roads. This is my top choice school but without more money I’ll be forced to attend another college with more money or a community college. So my question is, how do I write a letter of appeal for more money since I badly want to attend this school? Thanks.

Congrats on being accepted. I’m not sure about LMU but most schools have instructions on their website regarding how to appeal a financial aid award. You typically have to prove additional circumstances not included in your original forms including but not limited to medical expenses, family status change, etc that would warrant additional funding. They will require proof of these expenses so need to pull together quite a bit of detail. Good luck as I hope you can attend your dream school. Unfortunately many of these private schools are out of reach financially for most families. Crazy how expensive tuition has become.

okay thank you!! this helps me a lot more than the website
