Hey! I was just wondering whether an applicant can apply for financial aid to a bunch of schools but not for others or do applicants have to choose whether to apply for financial aid for all schools or for none? (example: applying for financial aid to villanova, upenn, harvard, georgetown, and yale, but not applying for financial aid to uchicago, columbia, cornell, and duke.) Thank you for your help!

Why are you wanting to only apply for FA at some schools? If you can afford to be full pay at UChicago for 4 years I doubt you will receive financial aid anywhere.

I am able to pay for 4 years at any college but I also believe that I can get financial aid at some schools if it doesn’t affect my chances, such as need-blind schools! I’d prefer saving my parents some money rather than have them pay full $200,000 if I can. So, is it possible for me to apply for financial aid at certain schools and not at others?

I think you are confused about what need blind means. It means when they are making an admissions decision they are not going to look at your finances, so basically if your low income and assets it won’t be held against you in the admissions decision. It does’nt mean they will give you aid even if you don’t need it.

If you are wanting to save your parents money you should look for schools that give big merit money for your stats, although most of those deadlines have passed if your a senior.

Yes you can choose which schools will receive your financial aid forms. I applied this strategy when my D1 applied - not for admission purposes but rather for merit scholarships. It worked at the school that I felt would more likely give merit to a full pay student.

Financial aid is based on financial need. It doesn’t sound like you have any need.

Why do you think you’d get FA at the schools that are need-blind? these schools are need-blind for admission…they aren’t “need-blind” when handing out FA packages.

Kids get such crazy ideas.

Yes, that does sound abit weird after reading it again. What I meant is can I apply for merit aid at certain schools but not at others if applying for the aid affects my chances? But if it doesn’t affect my chances whatsoever, then I would apply for merit aid to all. I think NewEnglandMother answered my question. Thankx for the input!

Why would you not apply for FA at a school you can’t afford just to get in? You’d get in and not be able to pay for it.
