If an applicant will NOT qualify for any "need based" financial aid but still wants to reserve his a chance at some merit scholarship $$$, need he / she still fill out all of the financial aid forms ?? Thanks.

No need for fin aid form. At the beginning of the Uncommon app it asks if you would like to be considered for merit scholarships. Just chooses yes, and you're good to go!

Typically, no. However, there are a few exceptions, so you should read each school's website carefully about their merit/scholarship programs. For example, at Carnegie Mellon in order to be eligible for a particular scholarship you have to submit financial data. Here's the info from their website: Presidential Scholarships are awarded to artistically and academically talented middle-income students who qualify for little or no need-based financial aid. Unlike our other academic scholarships, you must apply for need-based financial aid to be considered. (This verifies that you are not eligible for significant financial assistance.) You must submit the 2007-08 FAFSA in order to be considered for the Presidential Scholarship.

I also understand that Brandeis might want this info for some of their scholarships as well.

That said, my son applied to 11 schools, was admitted to 8 (and received some type of merit aid/scholarship at 5 of those) and we did not submit any financial data to any of the schools.

omg sorry I thought this was on the UChicago board. Sorry!
