my ED financial aid package was reasonable. but they sent an updated one where they took away everything. Should i call them about re-getting my work study?
also, i have a question about outside scholarships. i read in the boston globe (boston's biggest newspaper) that if you applied for federal aid, and they say that you are only eligible for let's say 3000 loan. However, you get a $5000 outside scholarship, you could only, under federal law, take 3000 of the 5000 that's offered. Is that true?

i'm satisfied. no loans in the package (mayor's) though I have to contribute a lot more than the EFC that i got on fafsa.

Speaking of the whole issue of money, does anyone reccomend the use of any particular bank for Penn students? I am from San Diego and the two banks that I currently have accounts at do not have branches anywhere near Penn.

i've heard PNC is pretty common

eek. whoa beech they sent you an updated one? was it after you sent in the 04-05 returns?

I don't think that outside scholarships can be deducted from parent contributions, only student contributions. after all, you earned the scholarships, not your parents :)

i was reading in the fin. aid thing i got from penn that now outside scholarships aren't deducted from the self-help fin. aid that you received from the school. rather, they are added to the university grants or something.

penn has been miserable for me...all i got was 5000 dollars of loans :-/
