<p>I got just my aid award and the EFC (Parents' Contribution) was around $5000. My parents were <em>livid</em>, b/c there is no way they can afford that. How much room do I have to negotiate the award over the phone before they rescind my offer of admission?</p>
<p>A lot of room. They're late in calculating my reward, I should be getting it by next week at the latest and they offered to extend my deadline for the $400. Just call, establish a dialogue, explain your situation and you will find that there are human beings on the other side of the line. Whether or not they'll give you more money, I don't know.</p>
<p>you can't negotiate, its need based not merit like other schools they only can give u more if you have circumstances that make u unable to pay for school. 5000 wow i wish my parents contribution was that low, anyways if u contact them they will be happy to help you, well thats what they say in the pamphlet lol</p>
<p>I am all right with the loans I've been given. They're not great, but okay. It's the EFC that gets me. I can't help my parents, either, b/c I'm expected to save during the summer and during the school year (work study). Plus I think I'll get more than the 1K they estimate for the Pell Grant. My sister got more.</p>

<p>She applied to a local community college but has since dropped out and gone to beautician school. She is a loser, but wouldn't she get the same from a Pell Grant wherever she went?</p>
