Does the financial aid calculator take into account that a student is out of state? I know out of staters can't have their whole need met, does the calculator calculate the full need or the 80% that is typically met for OOS?

the calculator just gave us a very favorable number (I'm so excited!!), and I just want to be sure that it will be close to what my real package would be like so I can determine whether to apply ED or not.

Also, on the calculator it did not ask about the value of our house or anything, is this considered in the real package? It will probably change it… financial aid is so scary!!

In the NPC they ask if you are OOS or IS as long as you answered all the questions correctly your outcome should be accurate. My D2 will be an incoming student Fall 2012 and the NPC was almost exactly the same as the award we received. Just make sure you entered everything correctly! Good luck!

Thank you new england mother!! this makes me feel much better we triple checked everything, so it should be right! yay!

@soccersara, the NPC does ask where you live and the aid it estimates is based on your being OOS (it’s not overestimating). Again, it’s dependent on the information you provide. Additionally, if you apply next year your aid will be based on your 2012 tax information (right now you’re no doubt entering 2011 information). The NPC is a great tool but it is absolutely not a guarantee so just keep that in mind as financial situations can always change as can financial aid laws.

Okay. I guess we have to think more about applying ED, I really hope I can though! Just one more question, When do early decision applicants receive their financial aid package?

Those admitted ED can receive an estimated package in mid-to-late December but the final package isn’t available until April because of course we have to get your actual FAFSA data (the estimate in December is based off the previous year’s information)

Oh okay, I see! Thank you!!
