Does CMU have reputation for keeping need based FA the same every year if nothing in your situation changes or are they one of the schools that gives more money to those coming in and decrease it as you move up towards senior year? We just don’t want any surprises…
How about women in majors like CS? Seeing so many more men and men from male dominant cultures in the CS program made me wonder how the female students fare? I’m thinking of team projects and whether their opinions will get heard or valued?
My cmu cs son respects the opinions of all of his peers, women included. I think the only time you might not feel respected is if your technical knowledge is less than another student’s, but that’s probably whether you are male or female. I think that’s just the nature of the school. His sister’s going to be a computer science major and he tells her “we really really need women programmers”
My son received generous need based FA last year and I had the same question. I called the FA office and was told it will be the same as long as I don’t win the lottery or have my financial situation change a lot. She did explain I might pay more if tuition is increased, which it did this year. I’m anxiously waiting to see if that’s true because we haven’t received his award for this year.
