Hello, basically I have around 9,000 dollars left over from the 2017-2018 year from my Community College, but I only attended in the summer. Now I am going to a University, what happens to that remainder of money? Does it transfer to the other college or do I receive it or does it just vanish?
Oh i didnt mention this is grant money
Vanish if it is school grant money. Federal grant money like Pell will be available to you at the next school, but you’ll have to apply for FA at the new school and figure out how much is left. Federal grant money like SEOG stays with the school. State grants will be up to the state.
You also need to know if the summer was part of the 2016-17 school year (in which case it is likely all grants have expired) or the 2017-18 financial aid year.
2017-2018 and year. I had a federal Pell grant and a WA state need grant.
The rest of the Pell grant will follow if you meet the requirements (at least a half time student in a degree program) and you’ll have to look up the requirements of the Wash grant to see if it transfers with you.
Did the university not give you a FA award letter? Look on your portal to see what is there.
THIS is the 2017-2018 school year…the one that started recently.
Apparently your summer was part of the 2017-2018 academic year. Any money at THAT school that is “leftover” is for the rest of that school year IF you attend that school.
For your university…you need to apply for aid there.
Did you apply for aid at your university? Aid doesn’t “transfer” from place to place. You need to apply for aid at the university.
I’m a bit confused. You say you “only went in the summer”. Were you enrolled in the community college in a degree seeking program?
I was getting credits for the universtiy
You can’t receive financial aid from a college UNLESS you are enrolled in a degree seeking program at THAT college. Were you enrolled in a degree seeking program at your community college?
Regardless…did you apply for financial aid t the university? If not…you need to do so. How are you paying for, this university? Did you think your community college aid would just transfer over?
I have recieved around 24000+ in aid for the university, but I dont see the money from the CC.
Is the pell and washington grant part of the $24000? It is not a direct transfer. The CC will close your account and the new school will award FA. If you Pell for the year is $5000 and you used $1000 for the cc, you’re pell ‘account’ will only have $4000 in it for the school year and you should see that on your financial aid page for the university (divided by term).
I think you were expecting to get the $9000 transferred over and then have $24000 plus $9000? No, the new school will give you an award, and may be limited by what you already used for the year at the cc.
You won’t get money from the CC once you matriculate at the university. You can only get financial aid from ONE college at a time…not two.
