Financial Aid: Father Deceased, Mother on Disability

I'm new to this and don't know much about financial aid. I'm wondering if there is any financial aid for a person in this situation. Are there scholarships or other things. I honestly have no idea. Any help is appreciated.

Once I graduat hs, my moms income will be about 25k. I have no siblings, I know thats not in poverty but its not a whole lot either. Most of her income will go to medical (no insurance). Any help is appreciated.

Unless you have large savings or other assets, you should be eligible for a large amount of need-based aid. When applying to colleges, be sure to look for ones that guarantee to meet 100% of need.

What Susan said. Saving and assets could really kill your fin. aid.

My father is deceased, my parents had no insurance then so we got no money what so ever, and my mother makes under $10K. My highest fin. aid package was $18K for a $40K college.

This was because we moved after my dad died, and mom kept the townhouse and rents it out for side money. Or so the fin. aid office said when I relayed my story and asked if my package could be reevaluated.

Sigh. Thank God for rich, generous uncles.

well if the school you choose to attend doesn't offer you enough aid, appeal, and show them that you're mom is on dissability.
